A Message from the Manager

First off, I'd like to thank you, our members, for all the love and support you not only give the market but have given me since taking over as GM. I truly appreciate all of the positive feedback I've received from many of you, as well as your suggestions/visions for the co-op. 

I'm reminded every day of how lucky the co-op is to have such a dedicated membership and such strong community support. I don't doubt for a minute that that is what has gotten us this far and for that, I'm incredibly grateful for all of you.

I plan to continue to work hard to ensure that the co-op serves all of you. It's my goal to make sure that every customer has a good shopping experience. If there's anything preventing any you from having that please don't hesitate to let me know how I can rectify it.

Again, a big thank you to all of our loyal members for helping us get this far. Here's to many more years!

April 15th Annual Meeting Report

April 15th was our annual meeting and in Co-op style I am going to say there were 20 some members present. I have been to three of these now and it is so difficult to set a date that works for everyone. I was hoping a spring meeting might be easier than in the fall. Nonetheless we had a good time. The barn at Oz farm is an amazing space to gather in and we had great food and wine sampling’s from our distributor Mountain Peoples. Thanks to all that worked to make it happen.

Jim Koogle has expressed a desire for a friends of the co-op group to form gathering more often to discuss positive input to the store. He has some great ideas and is looking for other like minded members to get together and brainstorm and create new ideas for the betterment of the co-op. 

Suggestions for a best annual meeting date and or interest in attending the friends of co-op group can be sent to me

Green Tea Cupcakes
Recipe using Match Love Green Tea Matcha Powder

For the cakes:
1/2 cup cashew yogurt
2/3 cup non-dairy milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup canola or sunflower oil
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3 to 4 teaspoons matcha tea powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar

For the Green Tea Glaze:
2 tablespoons margarine
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon matcha tea powder
1 to 2 tablespoons dairy-free milk
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Drop of vanilla extract

Make the cupcakes:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line cupcake pan with liners. In a large bowl, whisk together the yogurt, rice milk, vanilla, oil, and almond extract, beating well to blend in yogurt. Sift in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, matcha powder, salt, and sugar. If using rice flour it will be a little lumpy. Beat a little longer to break up any large lumps. Fill liners two-thirds full and bake 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted through the center of one comes out clean. Cool on racks before topping with glaze.

Hello everyone and thank-you for continuing to support the Arena Market and Cafe your locally owned and operated co-op.  We had a fabulous annual board meeting and appreciate all of the members who were able to come and share their thoughts suggestions and support of the Co-Op.  Your continued inter-action is greatly appreciated.  

I am happy to share with you this months suggestions and comments:

1.Please keep berries available for those who love delicious blackberries and blueberries. We are happy to have these  at all times, we are however limited to what we can purchase based on market availability. Please be assured if we can get them you will always have them waiting for you in our produce case. Thank-you for this request.

2.I would love to see a fly cover on the muffins.  We do have  covers for the muffins and they should be covered at all times.  Natalie is reminding our staff to keep them covered.  Please feel free to remind your server to cover them and drop us a note if the cover is not in place.  Thank-you for this concern.   We all agree pest-free product is what we want to offer.  This should no longer be an issue as we strive to improve customer service and quality presentation of all we offer.

2.  Julius loved the pastry cup with pesto and egg served 04/06 .  This is  great appreciated feedback and you will be seeing them again soon.  Natalie is working on a new menu regarding specials and informing everyone when certain items will be available on which days, so that you will know ahead of time when your request is being served.   We are definitely going to be increasing our daily offerings including but not limited to exciting new vegan and gluten selections.

Want to spend some time at the co-op helping to improve our market? It’s a fun place to spend some time working with great people building community spirit. Volunteers can help dust, tidy, check dates, prices etc. You could come in once a week or once a month for a couple of hours. Be a part of the solution, come help out!

Calling all members! 

Ginny has been working with Natalie at our store for the last 6 weeks in an attempt to smooth her transition. One of the issues she has come upon is wanting a clean slate so to speak to get started with. The co-op has gathered stuff over the years kind of like a garage does, and we would like to clear and clean it out so she can see what she has to work with. In order to facilitate this project we need help. Any member interested in helping please call Ginny 882-3248

We are still here it’s been 9 years now and we are stronger than ever. Great products, meeting your needs delicious cafe foods,and our wonderful helpful staff. The idea of paying forward has helped with cash flow. If you can please put money on your account. Thanks for all you do to support your co-op.
