Our Co-op on the Coast

Arena Market and Cafe / Coastal Organics Cooperative

A Message from the Manager

Man, I love our soup. Especially when it's freezing outside. Well, freezing for Point Arena! It’s February, and while its starting to act like Spring, I’m determined that this will be the year I don’t let the mostly mild weather trick me into planting out too soon. I will not lose a bunch of starts to frost! As the Manager, I’ve come to look forward to the end of February as the turning point when sales pick up again after what we tend to think of as our slower winter season. It’s like breathing again after holding your breath for so long. Every year we’re so grateful to those of our membership that contribute to the co-op by depositing some prepaid store credit into their Member House Charge Account. The simple act of prepaying a few shopping trips ahead really helps our cash flow, and according to our regular charge account users, it’s nice to not need to pull out the wallet at the register!

As we roll from Winter into Spring we’re starting to see the trickle of early crops from our local farms. We’ve got some local kale, chard, Napa cabbage, & winter squash. Cilantro, lettuces, and early onions and garlic are around the corner. Before we know it, we’ll be enjoying what I think is going to be a really nice Summer. We’re starting to ramp up some more lunch offerings, and have been taking care to have everything you need for your perfect pantry. I always take the time to explain to our new hires that a co-op isn’t a specialty store. We strive to be the regular store for all you specialty people! Our selection is constantly being curated to create exactly the product selection that you, our members and customers, are asking us to carry. Seven days a week, everyday but Christmas, we’re eagerly waiting to provide exactly the experience you ask us for. Thanks for telling us. Thanks for coming in.

See you at the co-op!

End of Winter Blues

It is at this time each year that our cash flow struggles and we ask that any members who are able to pay forward please do. Any new members, if you know of any new people in town please invite them to become a member of the co-op. And last, I encourage all members to make your needs and suggestions known in person, thru our Facebook page or in the suggestion box on the shelf below the bulletin board.
Remember, it’s your Co-op.
